Majority members of the 10th of parliament are strongly against the elimination of age limits for presidential candidates.

This is according to new report that has just been released this morning by the citizen’s coalition for electoral democracy in Uganda.

According to the report, 73% of the 324 interviewed MPs agree that there is no need to tamper with age limits, while only 27% see merit in lifting age limits for presidential candidates.

The report further reveals that  among NRM members, 65% do not support the move, while 35% support it, in the opposition camp, 97% are totally against the move but 3% support it , while among independents 81% are against the move and only 19% support it.

When asked about their view on the constitution of electoral commission, 77% of MPs acknowledge that there is urgent need to have open application, public scrutiny of applicants, parliamentary approval and finally approval by the president.

The survey was conducted via telephone between September 16th and October 7th 2016.
