The Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi Dollo has declined to recuse himself from determining the presidential election petition filed by NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi challenging president Museveni’s  victory in the January 14th January polls.

The Chief Justice has ruled that the application requesting him to excuse himself from Kyagulanyi’s petition lacks merit.

Today’s decision stems from an application filed by lawyer Male Mabirizi, demanding the Chief Justice stays stay away from all cases involving President Museveni because he is not impartial.

He explained that Justice Dollo was previously hired as a personal lawyer representing Museveni in the 2006 presidential election petition filed against him by Retired Colonel Dr Kiiza Besigye.

He also accused the Chief Justice of holding several meetings with the head of State, a claim the judiciary has vehemently denied.

However, the Chief Justice has declined to recuse himself and promised give his reasons for refusing to step aside on notice.

The Chief Justice’s decision comes a day after Kyagulanyi instructed his lawyers to withdraw the petition against president Museveni accusing some of the judges on the panel of bias.
