Makerere University has been closed indefinitely.<\/span><\/p>\n

The decision has been announced by the chairman University Council Dr. Charles Wana Etyem during a just ended emergency meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting had been called to discuss the ongoing lecturers\u2019 strike that has paralyzed work at the Ivory Tower.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lectures are demanding a 100% pay rise.<\/span><\/p>\n

The closure comes at a time when students were preparing to report for a new semester on Saturday August 17th<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Etyem, the council has resolved that all staff must handover movable university property before 4:00pm on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

No staff is allowed to conduct any business on behalf of the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

They also resolved to have all the university bank accounts suspended except those used to run day-to-day activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

All halls of residents are to remain closed though the guest house and all banks are to remain open.<\/span><\/p>\n
