{"id":72679,"date":"2024-02-03T20:48:28","date_gmt":"2024-02-03T17:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=72679"},"modified":"2024-02-03T20:48:28","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T17:48:28","slug":"mak-dons-trained-to-fight-moral-decadence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/mak-dons-trained-to-fight-moral-decadence\/","title":{"rendered":"Mak dons trained to fight moral decadence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thirty-eight senior lecturers from Makerere University have undergone a five-day training in Jinja City to fight moral decadence, including sexual immorality, drug abuse, corruption and HIV\/Aids, which is on rise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lecturers, mainly PhD holders,\u00a0have been equipped with skills to fight the aforementioned vices courtesy of the Office of the First Lady, Janet Museveni, in partnership with the Life Ministry and Global\u00a0Leadership Summit, both civil society organisations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state minister for trade, industry and cooperatives, Mr David Bahati, who represented Ms Janet Museveni,\u00a0said the lecturers were chosen because\u00a0they are always interfacing with the youths\u00a0who are susceptible to morale decadence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe First Lady\u00a0started this\u00a0emerging leaders\u2019 curriculum and teachers\u2019 training\u00a0to address some of the immoral issues we face in the country, especially among youth, and Makerere lecturers have been selected first since most of the time they are with the youth,\u201d Mr Bahati said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr Bahati further explained that all lecturers in other universities\u00a0will also be trained, adding that Makerere University lecturers are expected to use the knowledge acquired to shape their students\u2019 morals and return the University\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Principal of the College of Natural Sciences at Makerere University, Prof Winston Tumps Ireeta,\u00a0who represented the Vice Chancellor, said the government took the \u201cright decision\u201d\u00a0to train them since they can easily chip in such information as they handle students in lecture rooms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Prof Ireeta, the training will allow the lecturers to change their morals and eliminate allegations of sexual harassment, including sex for marks, which have plagued higher institutions of learning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prof Ireeta, however, says University policies are very clear on this matter, specifying that any culprit is terminated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bishop Joshua Lwere, the chairperson of Global Leaders\u2019 Summit and former overseer of the Pentecostal Churches in Uganda,\u00a0described the lecturers\u2019 reception of the training as \u201cgood\u201d, adding that they are committed to helping in fighting the emerging issues of unethical conduct and immorality in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said: \u201cThe lecturers and Vice Chancellor accepted to be part of this noble cause of fighting moral decay during my engagement with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty-eight senior lecturers from Makerere University have undergone a five-day training in Jinja City to fight moral decadence, including sexual immorality, drug abuse, corruption and HIV\/Aids, which is on rise.
