{"id":72621,"date":"2024-02-01T08:23:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T05:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=72621"},"modified":"2024-02-01T08:23:44","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T05:23:44","slug":"uganda-kenya-set-to-build-sgr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/uganda-kenya-set-to-build-sgr\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda, Kenya set to build SGR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Andrew Bagala<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Kenya is to start the construction of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">line from Naivasha to Kisumu, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and then to the Ugandan border <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Prof Peter Anyang\u2019Nyongo\u2019o, the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">governor of Kisumu City in Kenya, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">described the commencement of the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">extension of the SGR to Kisumu and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">then Uganda as good news for business <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and travellers of the two neighbouring <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cAs<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Kisumu<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">governor<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the chairman of the Lake Region <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Economic Block, I wish to thank the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">national government for the new <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">commitment in extending the SGR to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Kisumu and eventually to Uganda,\u201d Prof <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Anyang\u2019Nyongo\u2019o said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Last year, Uganda and Kenya agreed <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to construct the SGR from Naivasha in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Kenya to Kampala City in Uganda at the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">same time In a joint communiqu\u00e9 signed by the Minister of Works and Transport , Gen Katumba Wamala, and his Kenyan counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen, in Mombasa, Kenya, the two countries agreed on the financing and the development of the SGR to Kampala and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Prof Anyang\u2019Nyongo\u2019o said Mr Murkomen revealed that they expect to cover 35 percent of the SGR project by<br role=\"presentation\" \/>December.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Andrew Bagala Kenya is to start the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Naivasha to Kisumu, and then to the Ugandan border this year.
