The embattled Mufti of Uganda, <\/span>Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, has de<\/span>clined to relinquish power even af<\/span>ter the Uganda Muslim Supreme <\/span>Council (UMSC) General Assembly sus<\/span>pended him and chose Sheik Abduallah <\/span>Ssemambo as acting mufti.<\/span><\/p>\n

At least 146 of the 264-member Gener<\/span>al Assembly, which is the top decision-<\/span>making organ of the UMSC, convened at <\/span>Ggangu Muslim Primary School in Ma<\/span>kindye Division, Kampala, at the week<\/span>end and unanimously agreed to suspend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sheikh Mubajje for six months, accusing <\/span>him of running down the council. <\/span>Under the old UMSC constitution, <\/span>a mufti can be kicked out by at least <\/span>one third of the UMSC members. But <\/span>the new constitution says at least two <\/span>thirds have that power.<\/span><\/p>\n
