{"id":71417,"date":"2023-12-14T09:21:31","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T06:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=71417"},"modified":"2023-12-14T09:21:31","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T06:21:31","slug":"woman-remanded-over-torture-of-own-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/woman-remanded-over-torture-of-own-child\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman remanded over torture of own child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Noeline Nabukenya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The Nansana Magistrate\u2019s <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Court has charged a 32-year-old wom<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an with aggravated torture for alleged<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ly burning her five-year-old son. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Anna Namazzi, a resident of Kisimu <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Cell, Nansana Municipality in Wakiso <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">District, appeared before the court yes<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">terday where she was remanded to Luz<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ira prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Court documents show that in No<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vember, Namazzi placed hot charcoal <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on the soles of her son, Exodus Byaru<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hanga\u2019s feet as punishment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cThe case is capital in nature and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the accused is not allowed to make any <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plea,\u201d Nansana Grade One Magistrate <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Esther Joyce Ariokot ruled. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">She is set to return to court on Janu<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ary 25, 2024. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Namazzi was first arrested two <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">weeks ago but was granted police bond because she was pregnant.She was supposed to report back to police today but she was rearrested yesterday and immediately taken to court following complaints from the residents. In an interview with <strong>Daily Monitor <\/strong>yesterday, Ms Christine Babirye, a resident who rushed to Byaruhanga\u2019s rescue, said many women are looking for children and yet Namazzi is allegedly torturing hers instead of guiding him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">She said although Namazzi claims to have been punishing the child, the wounds he suffered indicate that she was torturing him. Ms Babirye added that Byarugaba\u2019s health is \u201cworrying\u201d which is why they decided to tip off the police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cI urge parents to stop torturing children.
