{"id":71144,"date":"2023-12-05T08:05:23","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T05:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=71144"},"modified":"2023-12-05T08:05:23","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T05:05:23","slug":"fdc-katonga-set-for-village-polls-as-najja-recruits-new-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/fdc-katonga-set-for-village-polls-as-najja-recruits-new-members\/","title":{"rendered":"FDC Katonga set for village polls as Najja recruits new members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Rodgers Magala &amp; Sylvia Katushabe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The two rival factions of the Op<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">position Forum for Democrat<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ic Change (FDC) party have an<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nounced separate mobilisation <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">events as each bids to garner nation<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">wid<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">e support ahead of the 2026 Gen<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">eral Election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The Katonga faction has announced <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">elections of new leaders at village lev<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">el come December 9 while their coun- <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">terparts at Najjanankumbi are on a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nationwide mobilisation drive to re<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cruit new party members. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mr Michael Kabaziguruka, the inter<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">im electoral commission chairperson <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for the Katonga faction, revealed yes<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">terday that the elections are targeting <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">new local leaders from 36,000 villages <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">countrywide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mr Kabaziguruka noted that the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">election materials had been dis<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">patched to all the villages across the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">country. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The village elections will be followed <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">by those at the parish, sub-county, con<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">stituency and district levels, and will <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">be crowned with a national delegates <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">conference slated for March 15 next <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">year as per the roadmap.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mr Kabaziguruka explained that <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">they are guided by the resolutions <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">passed by the September 19 delegates\u2019<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cI call upon all FDC faithful support<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ers countrywide to mobilise and turn <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">up in huge numbers for the grassroots <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">elections this Saturday, December 9,\u201d <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mr Kabaziguruka said during a press <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">briefing held at their offices on Katon- <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ga Road in Kampala yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">He urged their supporters to ignore all the demobilisation efforts against their electoral process by the Najjanankumbi team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cWe are aware that there are efforts by the suspended members, Patrick Oboi Amuriat [FDC president] and Nandala Mafabi [party secretary general], to sabotage the elections. We assure our supporters that we are in charge and they should participate in the elections,\u201d Mr Kabaziguruka added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">He also asked all party members who were suspended by the Najjanankumbi group such as Ms Ingrid Turinawe to return, saying FDC is for all its members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The FDC Katonga faction delegates\u2019 conference held on September 19 presided over by the party National Chairperson, Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, unanimously suspended Mr Amuriat, Mr Mafabi and Treasurer Geoffrey Ekanya. They then appointed an interim committee headed by Mr Erias Lukwago. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Meanwhile, Najjanankumbi leaders yesterday noted that the mobilisation exercise is aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2026 General Election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have embarked on sub-regional <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">conferences. We want to equip <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">our leaders with mobilisation skills <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and even ask them to recruit mem<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">bers and future candidates,\u201d the par<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ty spokesperson, Mr John Kikonyo<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">go, told journalists at the party head<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">quarters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cWe are going to all regions in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Uganda and when we finish them, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">we shall sit at our headquarters to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">analyse what will come out of them <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and we move forward,\u201dhe said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The party is also gearing up for the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">National Council meeting, the first <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of its kind after the controversial <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">election that saw Mr Patrick Oboi <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Amuriat an<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">d Mr Nathan Nandala <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mafabi retain their seats and party <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">president and secretary general, re<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">spectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mr Kikonyogo revealed that the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">meeting, due to December 15, is <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">aimed at discussing the current <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">state of the party.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Rodgers Magala &amp; Sylvia Katushabe The two rival factions of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party have announced separate mobilisation events as each bids to garner nationwide support ahead of the 2026 General Election.
