The Opposition Forum for democratic<\/span> Change (FDC) party has ad<\/span> vised the Leader of Opposition in Parlia<\/span>ment (LoP) to seek other strategies as a <\/span>way of demanding the 18 missing per<\/span>sons, saying the parliamentary boycott <\/span>may not yield anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr John Kikonyogo, the FDC spokes<\/span>person, urged the LoP, Mr Mathias Mpuu<\/span>ga, to engage all opposition party leaders <\/span>so that they reach a consensus on the is<\/span>sue of boycott.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFDC as a party has been a victim for <\/span>many years, and inevitably, we have <\/span>brought a lot of experience and a number <\/span>of us are here for consultancy as of today <\/span>on how we can handle these issues.This is <\/span>an issue which all of us are not comforta<\/span>ble with [and] even some people in NRM <\/span>are not comfortable with it. It should not <\/span>be an individual\u2019s responsibility to fight <\/span>alone and try to blackmail anybody else,\u201d <\/span>Mr Kikonyogo said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He noted that one of the strategies to <\/span>use is singling out different individuals, <\/span>taking them to courts of law and tasking <\/span>them to produce the missing persons as <\/span>opposed to demanding the entire gov<\/span>ernment. He made the remarks while <\/span>addressing journalists during the weekly <\/span>press briefing at their party headquarters <\/span>in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt is very dangerous if you <\/span>are looking to rescue someone and at <\/span>the same time you are fighting for polit<\/span>ical recognition. You may not succeed be<\/span>cause those people who don\u2019t want you <\/span>to succeed may end up fighting from <\/span>your own camp. We expected our broth<\/span>ers to plan this boycott properly. You are <\/span>going to the boycott,how are you going to <\/span>play about it, and what type of end game <\/span>do you expect?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Kikonyogo noted that FDC Mem<\/span>bers of Parliament are not participating <\/span>in the boycott by the opposition because <\/span>the party was never consulted. <\/span>However, he asked the Opposition not <\/span>to blackmail FDC saying they never un<\/span>derstood their plans for the boycott and <\/span>that the strategies of the boycott were not <\/span>properly indicated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom my experience, when you are <\/span>planning for a boycott, you have to look <\/span>at many issues.Even if somebody doesn\u2019t <\/span>follow you,he has not understood the rea<\/span>son why you are fighting,just move on,he <\/span>will follow you when you teach him more <\/span>on what to do,\u201dMr Kikonyogo said.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Mr Mpuuga said all politi<\/span>cal parties were engaged through their <\/span>whips during the shadow cabinet and <\/span>that the whips are expected to convey the <\/span>outcomes to their party headquarters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
