The leaders and support<\/span>ers of the Opposition National Unity Plat<\/span>form (NUP) party have reiterated their <\/span>demand for justice for the 2020 riot vic<\/span>tims.<\/span><\/p>\n

The group that gathered at the NUP par<\/span>ty headquarters in Makerere Kavule in <\/span>Kampala yesterday held special prayers. <\/span>More than 50 Ugandans died during the <\/span>November 18 and 19,2020 riots.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUP members led by their party pres<\/span>ident Robert Kyagulanyi tasked the gov<\/span>ernment to give a detailed report sur<\/span>rounding the death of Ugandans. <\/span>Mr Kyagulanyi said the government <\/span>should produce a list of perpetrators and <\/span>hold them accountable for the killings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know that the court awarded <\/span>Amos Ssegawa\u2019s mother Shs50m after <\/span>convicting the government for killing <\/span>her son during the riots, but that is not <\/span>enough, Ssegawa was killed by someone, <\/span>we would like to see the culprit arraigned <\/span>in court,\u201d Mr Kyagulanyi said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also not given up,we shall con<\/span>tinue to use all the avenues [available],in<\/span>cluding social media, to advocate for jus<\/span>tice,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The NUP president also urged all Ugan<\/span>dans to use various social media plat<\/span>forms to expose the crimes allegedly <\/span>committed by the regime. <\/span>NUP party secretary Lewis Rubongoya <\/span>commended the families of the victims <\/span>for pursuing justice amid threats and in<\/span>timidations. He urged party leaders not <\/span>to deviate from fighting for freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is now three years since the death of <\/span>our comrades,but no justice nor account<\/span>ability [has been made] for their death. <\/span>We, therefore, insist that, as leaders [it\u2019s <\/span>our mandate to persue justice]. Let us think about our people who perished…,\u201d he said. The fresh quest for justice comes nearly three days after a German envoy to Uganda, HE Matthias Schauer, added his voice in demanding accountability and justice for the victims.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pastor Fredrick Isabirye from Mukono District, who led the prayers, asked NUP leaders to put God first.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
