{"id":70086,"date":"2023-10-27T11:14:11","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T08:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=70086"},"modified":"2023-10-27T11:17:03","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T08:17:03","slug":"you-cant-force-govt-to-open-facebook-says-ict-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/you-cant-force-govt-to-open-facebook-says-ict-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"You can\u2019t force govt to open Facebook, says ICT minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Priscilla Maloba<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The government has maintained <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a tight grip on Facebook clamp<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">down, saying nobody will force <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">it to open the social media plat<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In a telephone interview with <em><strong>Daily Monitor <\/strong><\/em><\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on Wednesday, the Minis<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ter for ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, told traders under their association Urban Smart Traders Association (USTA) who have threatened to drag government to court for blocking the social media site that the government will open Facebook when they are ready.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cGovernment has been engaging Facebook on a number of things which have not been agreed on that is why Facebook has not been opened,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In a press briefing in Kampala on Wednesday, Facebook traders gave the government an ultimatum of 14 days to open the social media site or else they go to court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mr Badru Kabogoza Nsamu,the chair- person of USTA, said Facebook was a big platform where they were trading their goods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have lost billions of shillings since Facebook was closed, we have lost customers and also our businesses have come to a standstill.
