{"id":69492,"date":"2023-10-10T10:16:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T07:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=69492"},"modified":"2023-10-10T10:17:28","modified_gmt":"2023-10-10T07:17:28","slug":"students-count-losses-as-fire-guts-masaka-ss-girls-dormitory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/students-count-losses-as-fire-guts-masaka-ss-girls-dormitory\/","title":{"rendered":"Students count losses as fire guts Masaka SS girls\u2019 dormitory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Malik Fahad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police in Masaka City are investigating circumstances under which a girls\u2019 dormitory at Masaka Secondary School went up in flames on Tuesday morning and students\u2019 property worth millions destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>The 8am fire whose cause is still a mystery started when students were sleeping.<\/p>\n<p>The devastating fire destroyed everything inside the dormitory including; mattresses, shoes, suitcases, clothes, and books.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe first heard a big sound and in a few minutes fire started and quickly spread to the rest of the dormitory fueled by the highly flammable mattresses,\u201d a female student only identified as Sumayyiyah told this reporter.<\/p>\n<p>The gutted two-storeyed dormitory accommodated 47 Senior Five and Six students. Reports indicate that the ground floor of the dormitory wasn\u2019t affected.<\/p>\n<p>The school head teacher, Hajj Musa Musoke Mpungu has asked parents to stay calm as police continue to investigate the actual cause of the inferno.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo student was lost in the fire , except the two girls that fainted following the incident. All occupants of the affected dormitory are safe, but their properties were all destroyed. The fire brigade team arrived in time and prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings,&#8221; he said<\/p>\n<p>Southern regional acting police spokesperson, Mr Jamada Wandera said the fire could have been a result of an electrical short circuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team is still on ground to gather more information to establish the actual cause.
