{"id":63956,"date":"2023-03-23T16:13:31","date_gmt":"2023-03-23T13:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=63956"},"modified":"2023-03-23T16:13:31","modified_gmt":"2023-03-23T13:13:31","slug":"govt-optimistic-debt-is-on-declining-trend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/govt-optimistic-debt-is-on-declining-trend\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt optimistic debt is on declining trend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The finance ministry permanent secretary, Ramathan Ggoobi has maintained that Uganda\u2019s rising debt is sustainable and remains below those in peer countries, including Rwanda and Kenya, whose debt to GDP ratios are beyond 60%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uganda\u2019s public debt has since increased by 48.4% hitting Shs86.6 trillion as of June 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Officiating at the inaugural debt and development dialogue held in Kampala, Ggoobi expressed optimism that public debt is on a declining trend assisted by robust economic growth, enhanced tax revenue mobilization, and increased caution on the expenditure side.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOn the tax revenue front, we are currently implementing our flagship Domestic Revenue Mobilization Strategy, which aims at increasing the tax-to-GDP ratio by 0.5 percentage points every year.
