{"id":56554,"date":"2022-06-23T11:52:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T08:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=56554"},"modified":"2022-06-23T11:54:11","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T08:54:11","slug":"besigye-mukaaku-petition-high-court-seeking-for-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/besigye-mukaaku-petition-high-court-seeking-for-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Besigye, Mukaaku petition High  Court seeking for bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">By Ruth Anderah<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p>Jailed Opposition Leader Dr Kizza Besigye and activist Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku have petitioned High Court seeking to be released on bail.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Besigye and Mukaaku were on June 17th 2022 denied bail by Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza and remanded to Luzira prison on charges of inciting violence.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In his ruling, the magistrate said that once granted bail there is a high likelihood that the accused persons will recommit the same offences.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">However, being unhappy with the Court&#8217;s decision, Besigye and Makaaku, petitioned High Court saying the magistrate wrongful denied them bail based on a track record of unprosecuted criminal cases opened against them by the state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">High Court is yet to fix their bail application for hearing.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Documents before Court show that on June 14th \u00a02022 in Kikuubo, Shauriyako parish, Kampala city, Besigye and Mukaaku without lawful excuse made statements indicating that it would be desirable to demonstrate, which could cause violence and damage to property.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">They were protesting the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ruth Anderah Jailed Opposition Leader Dr Kizza Besigye and activist Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku have petitioned High Court seeking to be released on bail.
