The Speaker of P<\/span><\/span>arliament Jacob <\/span><\/span>Oulanyah<\/span><\/span> has tasked the Inspector General of Government (IGG) <\/span><\/span>Beti<\/span><\/span> Kamya<\/span><\/span> to clean up her office, before embarking on the fight against corruption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The IGG <\/span><\/span>was presenting to the Speaker, <\/span><\/span>a National Integrity Survey<\/span><\/span> report <\/span><\/span>that indicates that Uganda l<\/span><\/span>oses over Shs<\/span><\/span>20 trillion per year to corruption<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kamya<\/span><\/span> says tax payers’<\/span><\/span> money is mostly lost in Procurement and Budgeting, Health Care and<\/span><\/span>Education Provision, Taxation and <\/span><\/span>absenteeism in the public sector among other sectors.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kamya<\/span><\/span> asked the speaker\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to set aside a full day in parliament to debate the co<\/span><\/span>st of corruption to the country<\/span><\/span> in commemoration of this year’s International Corruption Day.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She also wants for parliament to establish a Select Committee to Study the IGG Reports and the trend of corruption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The speaker <\/span><\/span>decried the increased trends moral disengagement in the society where corruption is justif<\/span><\/span>ied without shame and condemned <\/span><\/span>superio<\/span><\/span>r authorities for fueling graft asking IGG <\/span><\/span>to weed out corrupt officials from <\/span><\/span>her office <\/span><\/span>who are making the job of fighting corruption very difficult.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
