Bank of Uganda <\/span><\/span>is considering introduction of<\/span><\/span> a number of regulatory changes and amendments to support governance and regulation of the financial sector<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The bank\u2019s Deputy Governor<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> Michael <\/span><\/span>Atingi<\/span><\/span>-Ego says key among the reforms include <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>proposed amendments to the BOU A<\/span><\/span>ct 2000 to among other things<\/span><\/span>;<\/span><\/span>strengthen <\/span><\/span>governance, and the Financial I<\/span><\/span>nstitutions A<\/span><\/span>ct <\/span><\/span>2004 that will specifically regulate<\/span><\/span> Islamic banking among other aspects<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Atingi<\/span><\/span>-Ego says these will address<\/span><\/span> gaps in the emerging digital <\/span><\/span>space and<\/span><\/span> Fintech and is optimistic that it will ensure that <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>commercial bank\u2019s <\/span><\/span>monetary policy<\/span><\/span> frame work is effective and not compromised.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
