United Nations agencies have urged Countries to invest in teachers and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

The call from Joint UN agencies comes as the world celebrates Teachers day today and\u00a0nearly\u00a0 two\u00a0 years\u00a0 since\u00a0 the\u00a0 outbreak\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 COVID-19\u00a0 pandemic where many\u00a0 education\u00a0 systems\u00a0 are\u00a0 still\u00a0 facing significant disruptions.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a statement from the agencies, a\u00a0\u00a0successful\u00a0\u00a0education\u00a0\u00a0recovery\u00a0\u00a0starts\u00a0\u00a0with\u00a0\u00a0ensuring\u00a0\u00a0teachers\u2019\u00a0\u00a0well-being,\u00a0\u00a0adequate\u00a0\u00a0pay and safety, including their prioritization for vaccination together with other key workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA\u00a0 successful\u00a0 education\u00a0 recovery\u00a0 calls\u00a0 for\u00a0 investment\u00a0 in\u00a0 more\u00a0 teachers\u00a0 and\u00a0 in\u00a0 training\u00a0 and professional development opportunities, so that educators may enrich their practice and gain the skills to integrate and use educational technologies effectively to support learning and adapt to a diversity of learners\u2019 needs,\u201d read the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are also calling for the celebration of Teachers for their exceptional dedication and courage and for ensuring learning continuity as well as their capacity to adapt and innovate under very challenging and uncertain conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow is the time to recognize the exceptional role teacher\u2019s play and to empower them with the training, professional development, support and working conditions they need to deploy their talent.\u00a0 This\u00a0 is\u00a0 a\u00a0 time\u00a0 of\u00a0 challenge\u00a0 but\u00a0 also\u00a0 an\u00a0 opportunity\u00a0 for\u00a0 rapid\u00a0 transformation\u00a0 to\u00a0 address\u00a0 the\u00a0 unfulfilled\u00a0 needs\u00a0 which\u00a0 have\u00a0 been\u00a0 multiplied\u00a0 by\u00a0 the\u00a0 pandemic.\u00a0 Sub-Saharan\u00a0 Africa\u00a0 alone\u00a0 requires\u00a0 15\u00a0 million\u00a0 more\u00a0 teachers\u00a0 to\u00a0 reach\u00a0 the\u00a0 education\u00a0 goals\u00a0 by\u00a0 2030,\u201d read the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n
