{"id":50642,"date":"2021-09-15T17:07:06","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T14:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=50642"},"modified":"2021-09-15T17:07:06","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T14:07:06","slug":"upc-president-akena-welcomes-court-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/upc-president-akena-welcomes-court-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"UPC president, Akena welcomes court ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Prossy Kisakye<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The opposition Uganda People\u2019s Congress president James Akena, has welcomed the court ruling in a case challenging his presidency.<\/p>\n<p>This is after Prof. Edward Kakonge filed an application last year challenging Akena\u2019s convening, presiding over, and participating in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> August 2020 delegate\u2019s conference held in Kasangati.<\/p>\n<p>He asked the court to nullify all resolutions and decisions taken by Akena at the delegate\u2019s conference in the capacity of UPC president and also imprison him for one year for allegedly acting in contempt of the 2015 court order which nullified his position as the party president though the ruling was overtaken by the event as it was delivered in September 2020 after the expiration of his term of office and elected for another term.<\/p>\n<p>However, yesterday court of appeal dismissed the application for want of prosecution citing continued wastage of court\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media this morning at the party\u2019s headquarters in Kampala, Akena welcomed the ruling, he said his focus now is on rebuilding the party structures from grassroot level to prepare the party to regain power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Prossy Kisakye The opposition Uganda People\u2019s Congress president James Akena, has welcomed the court ruling in a case challenging his presidency.
