{"id":49712,"date":"2021-08-13T09:59:26","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T06:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kfm.co.ug\/?p=49712"},"modified":"2021-08-13T09:59:26","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T06:59:26","slug":"nups-ssenyonyi-challenges-new-evidence-challenging-his-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/nups-ssenyonyi-challenges-new-evidence-challenging-his-victory\/","title":{"rendered":"NUP\u2019s Ssenyonyi challenges new evidence challenging his victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">By Ruth Anderah\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">Nakawa West Member of parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has asked the High Court to dismiss both the original and intended amended petition against his victory filed by his political rival\u00a0Mukesh Shukla.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">Through his lawyers\u00a0led by George Musisi, Ssenyonyi says Mukesh&#8217;s petitions lack merit having been filed out of time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">Mukesh , who came sixth in the race of Nakawa West Constituency \u00a0in the January election,\u00a0 applied to Court seeking permission to amend his petition filed on March 9th \u00a02021 challenging the victory of Joel Ssenyonyi to include facts that he says are material to the effective judicial inquiry into the petition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">He contends that the facts in question came into his knowledge after filing the original petition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">The businessman\u00a0 now wants court to grant him leave to file an amended petition to include issues alleging that\u00a0 \u00a0Ssenyonyi was nominated, elected and consequently declared as the legitimate winner without having the mandatory academic qualifications to be in Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">Mukesh now wants the Court to throw Ssenyonyi out of parliament and conduct fresh elections in the Constituency. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-originalfontsize=\"16pt\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"21.33333396911621\">Ssenyonyi ran on the National Unity Platform party ticket and defeated eleven other contenders after obtaining 31,653 votes.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ruth Anderah\u00a0 Nakawa West Member of parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has asked the High Court to dismiss both the original and intended amended petition against his victory filed by his political rival\u00a0Mukesh Shukla.
