{"id":42453,"date":"2019-07-20T09:26:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-20T06:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kfm.co.ug\/?p=42453"},"modified":"2019-07-20T09:26:16","modified_gmt":"2019-07-20T06:26:16","slug":"women-rights-activists-call-for-more-commitment-of-govts-on-sdgs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/women-rights-activists-call-for-more-commitment-of-govts-on-sdgs\/","title":{"rendered":"Women rights activists call for more commitment of govts on SDGs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Catherine Ageno<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of women\u2019s rights activists from across the globe took to the streets of New York on Thursday to demand greater government accountability and commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>In global solidarity, hundreds of activists and human rights defenders from across the world including the African Women\u2019s Development &amp; Communications Network, FEMNET marched the streets in New York chanting <em>\u201crise up,\u00a0fist up, for system change\u201d <\/em>and <em>\u201cwe are the feminists fighting for justice and liberation\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the sidelines of this year\u2019s High Level political Forum on Sustainable Development, FEMNET Executive Director Ms. Memory Kachambwa, decried the state of rising inequalities in the world especially in the global South.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn actual fact, the world is lagging behind in many dimensions and there is an urgency to accelerate progress towards our collective aspirations for a better, just, peaceful and sustainable world\u201d, said Ms. Kachambwa.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Kachambwa says four years into the implementation of the ambitious and promising 17 Sustainable Development Goals, it has been <em>\u2018business as usual\u2019<\/em> with not much progress in genuinely leaving no one behind and transforming the world as envisioned in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Catherine Ageno Thousands of women\u2019s rights activists from across the globe took to the streets of New York on Thursday to demand greater government accountability and commitment to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
