Gen Andrew Gutti refused to honor orders contained in a ruling of High court Judge Margaret Oguli-Oumo that directed for the\u00a0release\u00a0of the police\u00a0officers whose trial she\u00a0declared as illegal and\u00a0unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>However\u00a0despite receipt of this ruling,\u00a0the Army court went ahead to even cancel the bail it had granted to the 3 junior officers and remanded the entire team of 7 officers\u00a0to Makindye Military police barracks until today.<\/p>\n<p>This has\u00a0today\u00a0prompted lead defense counsel Caleb Alaka to inform court that he is compelled to seek a meeting with the Attorney General, the court&#8217;s head Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti and the prosecution team led by Maj. Raphael Mugisha for a clear explanation and interpretation of the High court ruling.<\/p>\n<p>In February this year, Justice Oguli ordered for the immediate release and discharge\u00a0of these\u00a0police officers\u00a0on grounds that\u00a0the Army court acted unreasonably to charge\u00a0serving police officers with offenses of being in unlawful possession of firearms yet,\u00a0they need guns in the execution of their duties.<\/p>\n<p>The jailed\u00a0 police officers include ; the former commandant of the Special Operations Unit Nixon Agasirwe ,Joel Aguma , Benon Atwebembeirwe,\u00a0 Abel\u00a0 Tumukunde\u00a0 Fisal Katende ,\u00a0 KwarisimaAmon and James Magada.<\/p>\n<p>The Army court has today sent them\u00a0back on remand until the May 8<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>2018 after prosecution reported of incomplete inquiries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ruth Anderah.
