{"id":33559,"date":"2018-03-13T14:54:05","date_gmt":"2018-03-13T14:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kfm.co.ug\/?p=33559"},"modified":"2018-03-13T14:54:05","modified_gmt":"2018-03-13T14:54:05","slug":"ubc-contests-payment-of-80-million-to-besigye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/ubc-contests-payment-of-80-million-to-besigye\/","title":{"rendered":"UBC contests payment of 80 million to Besigye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Ruth Anderah.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has filed a notice of appeal contesting payment of\u00a080 M shillings that the High court awarded to former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye as damages.<\/p>\n<p>On the 26th\/February 2018, High court judge Margaret Oguli-Oumo penalised UBC for refusing to play Dr. Besigye&#8217;s campaign advert messages yet it had received 21 million shillings from him for the same .<\/p>\n<p>However UBC through its lawyer KiryowaKiwanuka has filed a notice of appeal notifying the Court of Appeal of its intentions to challenge the said award, an order to pay Besigye a 30% interest on the said money and costs of the suit.<\/p>\n<p>The 80 million shillings award stems from a suit that Besigye filed against UBC and it&#8217;s former managing director Edward Musinguzi in 2012 accusing them of failing their contractual obligations when they refused to run his spot messages\u00a0ahead of the 2011 general polls.<\/p>\n<p>Even though UBC later\u00a0refunded the 21 million shillings to Dr. Besigye; justice Oguli ruled that his equal rights to enjoy media as a presidential candidate were violated .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ruth Anderah.\u00a0 The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has filed a notice of appeal contesting payment of\u00a080 M shillings that the High court awarded to former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye as damages.
