{"id":33420,"date":"2018-03-01T09:30:54","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T09:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kfm.co.ug\/?p=33420"},"modified":"2018-10-16T16:18:09","modified_gmt":"2018-10-16T13:18:09","slug":"more-than-half-of-ugandans-are-living-in-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/more-than-half-of-ugandans-are-living-in-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"More than half of Ugandans are living\u00a0in poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Catherine Ageno.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>More than half of Ugandans are living\u00a0in poverty\u00a0and lack what to eat due to food insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to research findings released by Twaweza, a ten year citizen-centered initiative, focusing on large-scale change in East Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The study carried out by Sauti Za Wananchi using a mobile phone survey further reveals that 84% of Ugandans are not happy with how the economy is being managed and the direction it is taking.<\/p>\n<p>Releasing the survey findings in Kampala this morning, Marie Nanyanzi a Sauti Za Wananchi officer said 85% of Ugandans have reported in the last three months to have gone a whole day without food, with 67% having had nothing to eat yet they were hungry.<\/p>\n<p>Nanyanzi adds that food insecurity\u00a0was highest in rural areas at 51% compared to urban areas at 45%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile\u00a0the survey\u00a0also names Karamoja region as one of regions where 85% which accounts for 5 out 6 residents spending a whole day without food.<\/p>\n<p>The findings were collected from over 1,900 Ugandans as respondents in a survey carried out in October 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Catherine Ageno.
