{"id":33289,"date":"2018-02-22T11:04:16","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T11:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kfm.co.ug\/?p=33289"},"modified":"2018-02-22T11:04:16","modified_gmt":"2018-02-22T11:04:16","slug":"half-of-a-level-science-students-failed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kfm.dembefm.ug\/staging_h\/half-of-a-level-science-students-failed\/","title":{"rendered":"Half of A-level science students failed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>BY PAUL TAJUBA.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>One in two A-level students who sat for science subjects in last year\u2019s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations failed, analysis of the results released yesterday shows.<\/p>\n<p>The report of half of the 75,451 science students failed to obtain a principal pass.<\/p>\n<p>This contrasts with the government\u2019s spirited investment and rhetoric to promote sciences as a cornerstone of formal education in order to better skill Ugandans.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this poor performance, education officials who presided over yesterday\u2019s release of the A-level results did not pronounce themselves on how to quickly fix the problem, raising questions about government\u2019s commitment to make its policy of prioritizing sciences work.<\/p>\n<p>Students overall performed better in Literature in English, Christian Religious Education, Physics and Biology compared to previous year, Uneb reported.<\/p>\n<p>Currently A-level students take a combination of three principal subjects either in Arts or sciences, plus one optional subsidiary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY PAUL TAJUBA.
