There’s outrage in Zimbabwe following the appointment of\u00a0President Robert Mugabe’s son-in-law as state-owned Air Zimbabwe’s second-in-command.<\/p>\n
The opposition Movement for Democratic Movement (MDC)\u00a0has demanded\u00a0to know when and where interviews were held before\u00a0Simba Chikore was appointed chief operating officer of the debt-saddled national airline.<\/p>\n
It also demanded\u00a0that the airline furnish the nation with Mr\u00a0Chikore\u2019s professional qualifications and work experience.<\/p>\n
Air Zimbabwe and Mr\u00a0Chikore have not yet\u00a0commented on the furore.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0married Bona Mugabe,\u00a0the 92-year-old leader’s\u00a0daughter, two years ago.<\/p>\n
As chief operating officer, Mr\u00a0Chikore\u00a0will\u00a0report\u00a0to Chief Cxecutive Ripton Muzenda, son of Zimbabwe’s\u00a0late Vice-President\u00a0Simon Muzenda.<\/p>\n
The government earlier this year promised to help the airline overcome its financial crisis.<\/p>\n
It\u00a0has debts worth \u00a3300m (\u00a3235m).<\/p>\n
Parliament’s\u00a0transport committee\u00a0revealed in June 2015\u00a0that it\u00a0was making a monthly loss of\u00a0$3m\u00a0(\u00a32.4m) and was\u00a0technically insolvent.<\/p>\n
The airline has been looking for a strategic partner to boost its revenue and reposition itself for growth.<\/p>\n
